Zachary is an apprentice in the Interhistorical Alliance, protecting history from the evil Scatterers. While waiting in Tucson for his ghostly mentor, Maria, he's given a mysterious portal made by his uncle Zamiel. Years ago, Zamiel was killed in a car accident, but now Zachary wonders if his uncle could have somehow survived.

Upon his return to The Connedim--a place connecting the past and the future--Zachary discovers that Zamiel was well known in the Alliance before his disappearance.
