Mickey Getty attended Florida Atlantic University and studied writing there. She has been the recipient of several awards: The National League of American Pen Women Second Place Letters Award, the Thomas Burnett Swann Memorial Scholarship, the Florida Atlantic University World AIDS Day Literary Expressions Competition several years in a row, and the fiction award from the Pennsylvania Writer's Conference for "The Birth of William," an excerpt from The Junk Lottery.
