The Saint of Ste-Foy Mary Stuart Jacobi |
|
"Young" professor Bonassette has taken a French Canadian college by storm. Everyone she meets sees a completely different person. Is she a sage, a saint, a madwoman, or just another oddity among the cast of eccentric characters on a modern PC campus scene? Those in-the-know want to "out" her as a witch. While she teaches the Ancient Classics from an all-too personal point of view, she also finds the time to volunteer at the campus daycare centre, sing "lost" folk songs for a Quebecois dance club and manage a student theatre company's costume production of "les Liasons Dangerouses" when the director is hospitalized. Where ever she goes, unaccountable events begin to happen. When she becomes the only common link in a series of deaths in the AIDS ward at the university's teaching hospital her expertise in "traditional" herbal remedies raises the suspicion of the administration and local law enforcement. Things only grow hotter when she turns the homecoming celebration into a Burning Man festival. She reveals a bit too much when she sacrifices her Christmas holiday to donate a kidney to save the life of a little girl from the daycare.
