Harlyn of Darkness

John P. Alexander

Inf Harlyn jumps from the Teel space-time ship into an era over 2,000 years before the ship's arrival--9 A.D. Inf finds himself on the banks of the Rhine River during the period of the Roman conquest of Germany. When he saves a ring lost by three young maidens bathing in the river, he soon encounters three additional girls and a strange telepathic girl who calls herself the Goddess Vesta. She claims the three-foot-tall fairy as her pet and takes him to her stockade encampment in the wild forest.

There Inf is confronted by Vesta's mother, a woman who goes by the name of the Goddess Roma, who's leading the Roman expedition into Germania beyond the Rhine. In executive command of three Roman Legions is none other than Tal Brahk in the guise of the Roman Proconsul Marcus Quintilius Varus. While Tal Brahk is plotting a coup against the goddesses who are the "real" rulers of the Roman Empire, Inf gets to know the six Vestal Virgins.

Although these events take place long before those of "Triumph of the Willy," Tal Laver and Utra-1027 appear at different points in history as they search through time portals for Inf Harlyn. They must find him before the entire Roman expedition is slaughtered by the German barbarian tribes in the Tuetoborg Massacre, the most infamous defeat Rome ever suffered. Cameos include Jesus, the Beatles, and Fritz the alien werewolf.
