Janet is the award-winning author of more than thirty books for children. Her nonfiction picture book "Seven Miles to Freedom: The Robert Smalls Story" was named an Honor Book by the Society of School Librarians International, an Editor's Favorite by "The Bloomsbury Review", and received a starred review from "Kirkus Reviews". Her fiction picture book "Little Skink's Tail" is the winner of three Mom's Choice Awards gold medals, including Best Children's Book for 2009 (1 of 3). The book also won the Teachers' Choice Award from Learning Magazine and was named Best Picture Book and Best Overall Book by the Florida Publishers Association. Janet grew up on a farm in mid-Michigan and now lives in Wisconsin. Before her career as a full-time children's writer, she created coloring and activity books for Golden Books, edited a children's magazine for country kids, and was a reporter for a daily newspaper. She is the mother of four and the grandmother of four. She enjoys gardening, exploring nature, reading, visiting new places, and spending time with her family. By This Author |
