We have rated this book preteen. (Broken Lawnmower, First Job, Girl Friend, Bus Boy/Chicken Suit, Humor, Growing Up) The trouble starts for fifteen-year-old Nick Wycoff when the lawn mower stops working and Nick's friend, Ronald, offers to take on the job of fix-itman. In an effort to fix the mower, both boys end up dismantling Nick's father's archaic, but prized mower. Seeing the mower parts scattered across the yard, Nick's father strongly suggests Nick get a job to replace it. The next day Ronald breaks the serenity of the early morning with a phone call to say that The House of Chicken is hiring bus boys. Nick assures Ronald that his father was just angry the day before and doesn't really expect him to get a job and replace the mower . . . or does he? The summer vacation suddenly starts to spiral into a whirlwind adventure for Nick and Ronald. By This Author The Broom Closet Detectives |
