Northwest Passages

Edited by Cris K.A. DiMarco

"Two centuries ago, the Lewis and Clark expedition ventured into the unknown to connect the new American nation to the Pacific Northwest, an area now known as Cascadia. They encountered many surprises along the way, and these changed their view of the world. Today, we celebrate humanity's explorations of the new frontiers of space, the environment, technology, the mind, and the human condition. How will we forge into this future where nature meets machine and humanity is forced to choose between being a spiritual element or a living part of technology?"

Cascadia Con put out the call for submissions and the response was outstanding. Senior Editor and science fiction author Cris DiMarco personally reviewed more than eight hundred stories for the anthology. The process took months but it was worth the wait. Twenty-five authors and twenty-six pieces were chosen to create what may come to be known as the best collected works of Pacific Northwest SF/F ever compiled.

Northwest Passages is a diverse and fully captivating anthology of speculative fiction, science fiction and fantasy from both new and established authors. From the hilarious "Free Range," to the surreal "Dance of the Cube-Farm Dreamers" and the poignant "The Pulse of the Sea," here are stories that break new ground, recast the stereotypes of the genre and truly evoke the essence of the Pacific Northwest at every turn.

Presented by Cascadia Con and edited by Cris DiMarco, Northwest Passages had its official launch at Cascadia Con on Friday, September 2, 2005. The event included door prizes, a meet-and-greet with staff and authors, and a fabulous offering of local sushi, cookies and coffee. Deemed a success by all involved, the launch bolstered Fandom's dedication to its line of Presented books.
